| The prediction I made nearly a month ago has borne out. Roxana Saberi is free this hour, having walked out of the Iranian jail where she was being held moments ago.
She was arrested in January and found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison in April. I said at that time that there was no way in hell she would serve eight years, that it was a game and she was a pawn therein. That was born out when the President took the unusual step of interfering with the judicial system and encouraging a "fair" review of her case by the appeals court.
Her appeal was heard yesterday, on her 32nd birthday, and her sentence was reduced and suspended. She will be allowed to leave the country but she will not be allowed to report from Iran for five years. Immediately upon learning of her pending release, her father left for Tehran to fetch her home. |
