About Us

This blog is written by a couple of liberal patriots who aren't quite as pissed off as they were a couple of years ago, but aren't taking anything for granted, either. We share a fierce dedication to the Constitution - the only words ever put to paper worth dying for, and we'll argue it's finer liberal points with anyone.

We exist to remind y'all that America was founded on four boxes:
  • The Soapbox
  • The Ballot Box
  • The Jury Box
  • The Ammo Box
They should be used in that order. This is our soapbox.

The Ad You Should - But Won't - See During the Super Bowl

Here's what they're talking about.

BG has a LATE UPDATE, 2:00 p.m.:

We (Yellow Dog and I) are calling it a day and going to watch football, eat the wrong foods and drink beer. Maybe lots of beer. We aren't even guaranteeing a roundup tonight, but regular blogging will resume tomorrow. Now, go play. What the hell are you doing reading political blogs on Super Bowl Sunday, anyway? The only other more uniquely American holiday - and this is a holiday, by every measure of the word - is the Fourth of July. And as far as economic impact, my money is on today. Now. Seriously. Get out of here and go watch some football, eat some chips and dip and have a beer. Politics will still be here tomorrow, and it isn't going to get markedly more or less stupid in the few hours between now and then.

YD has a LATER UPDATE, 5:30 a.m.:

Go here right now and just wallow in what is, this morning, as it was 4 and a half years ago, the GREATEST FUCKING NEWSPAPER ON THE PLANET.

There's a football game today? (0.00 / 0)
Really? They do stuff like that during the annual unveiling of really expensive television commercials? Well, live and learn.

I suppose I'm one (0.00 / 0)
of only a handful of people in the world who didn't even turn their TV on today or didn't pay any attention to the ultimate gladiator spectacle staged by the nobility to further numb the minds of the serfs.

Didn't know who won until my niece posted it on her Facebook wall and didn't care.  Hell, I didn't even know for sure who was playing until last night.

I have been reading about this Tebow thing though and the fact that the NFL is allowing itself to be used to to sell partisan political propaganda has firmly cemented my belief that decision some years back to refuse to indulge in the bread and circuses being pushed upon us by the Wall Street marketing barons.

Some highly overpaid athletes I never heard of made a ton of bucks for playing a fricking game and demonstrating the dubious advantages of performance enhancing drugs while ordinary people are starving and being killed and maimed all over the world in all kinds of ways and poor kids right here in our own country go to bed hungry.

Some corporations paid huge dollars for an opportunity to sell their shit in a bidding war, a totally different kind of contest that just about rivals the game itself in terms of importance and viewer expectation and this year the right wing propaganda machine got to push some of their prime crap on more people at one time than ever before, which I believe to be the ultimate sellout by the NFL.

Pardon me but about the most enthusiasm I'm going to be able to muster in regard to the not so f**king super Super Bowl can perhaps be best expressed thusly:

Whoopty F**king Doo!

If God ever decides to give the world an enema, I'm pretty sure Wall Street is where He'll stick the hose.

I think I probably should clarify myself... (0.00 / 0)
I am in now way attempting to suggest some kind of moral high ground or that people who enjoy sports in any form should not do so.  I spent many years as an avid fan, especially of the old AFL expansion teams from 1960.
Played ball myself for four years in school.  It's just lost a lot of its shine for me in recent years.

It was about the time that a lot of people started talking almost as much about the commercials as they did the game and there were as many predictions and bets being made about that as there was the game itself that it began to wear on me just a little and today it simply wears on me more, that's all.  And of course, the Janet Jackson Titzapoppin' Loolapalooza in which she managed to garner damned near as much MSM coverage as the game itself didn't help.  I guess I'm just jaded, more than anything else.

To those of you who still enjoy it, I hope your team won, you won all your bets and every pool you entered and I hoped your happily stuffed on beer and wings and had a great time.  I did NOT mean to come across as preachy up there.

If God ever decides to give the world an enema, I'm pretty sure Wall Street is where He'll stick the hose.
